Woes return to Wrigleyville...big surprise, right?

Hope is a wonderful thing for a baseball team, but when it runs dry and it's time to face facts; quick, intelligent decision making is required. With the recent announcement concerning Kerry Wood's knee surgery the Cubs seem to sway away from looking towards the near future. If Wood remains absent and unhealthy for months in the upcoming season a strong replacement is needed. Spring training will be over in less than a month so the Cubs management better not sit on their thumbs, thinking about what to do.

I realize Kerry Wood has a few years left on his contract. That doesn't matter if the Cubs can work a good trade for him, possibly including a few infielders or outfielders. They could even entertain the idea of dealing away Maddux. Yeah, I know he's considered one of the best in his time, but his glory days are long gone. The two young guns, Prior and Zambrano will be forced to carry the load in the rotation. There is no one else available to relieve them. Glendon Rusch isn't a miracle worker. They've got to find a reliable veteran to fill the third or fourth spot.

If Andy McPhail and Jim Hendry sign another freaking low-market nobody, who brings little or nothing to the table I may have to personally write them a letter or email asking how such stupid, incompetent jackasses could run a Major League team for so long and suck so badly at it. Hell, why not start a poll or do a survey to see what potential players the FANS think should be sought after in a deal. I think signing Ramirez and Wood to extended, big whooping contracts was a mistake.

Leaving the door open for possible takers before the spring training would've been smart. People want to talk about being cursed...well that has nothing to do with poor judgment in selecting talent and procastination. This cycle of personal hell for Cubs fans evolves every year. Instead of waiting 'til next season as many say, lets take charge in 2006 and take a stand against any panty waist at the top who tries to screw the whole season up for everyone again!
