The young guns did fine work on Saturday against the Athletics, combining for 9 shutout innings. Angel Guzman and Rich Hill didn't give up a hit in the 4 innings they pitched a piece. The team looks forward to opening day with great anticipation. Dusty Baker is searching for a starting pitcher to put in the 5th spot of the rotation since Mark Prior is expected to miss the start of the season.
Baker can exercise all his options with the young right-handers available. Chicago may need to pick up an extra arm for the rotation. Taking too many chances or waiting around for the stars to get healthy won't be their benefit. They can work out a trade or shell out the cash to get a real quality starter. Think about putting Neifi Perez, Todd Walker, or a reliever like Mike Remingler on the table. There is plenty of optimism for the season, but without taking appropriate timely actions a team falters and is unable to get over the hump. Cubs fans don't want to see this happen yet again.
