Soriano, Lee make All-Star game interesting late

The Cub bats made their presence felt at the 78th All-Star game in San Francisco. In the 9th inning with the NL down 5-2 Alfonso Soriano slugged an opposite field 2-run shot with 2 outs. J.J. Hardy and Derek Lee (1-for-2) both walked to bring up the Phillies' Aaron Rowand. Unfortunately he couldn't get a hit or reach base and the NL lost 5-4. It was a thrilling game, going down to the final out. Ichiro (All-Star MVP) made history with the first inside the park homerun! I'm happy at least 2 Cub players made the All-Star team.

Next year I look for Zambrano to be there in rare form as usual. At the break Chicago is only 4 games in back of the Brewers. With the festivities and all the last few days hopefully everybody has got a chance to rest and return to play fully recuperated. I think Alfonso Soriano should've been in the homerun Derby. I watched most of the event and actually had picked Vladmir Guerrero to win it...and he pulled it off! Just the same though I would have rooted for Lee or Soriano if they'd participated.

After 2 additional off days the Cubs are set to play the Astros, Giants, Diamondbacks at home before going on another road trip to finish out July. With the offense in full swing this club is going to be okay until they get into August. Then they'll have buckle down and beat some stiff competition. I forward to what awaits in the latter part of the season. Get that rest in while you can Cubs!
