Cubs nip Astros 7-6, complete sweep at home

What a weekend for the Chicago Cubs! They took care of business at Wrigley serving up a series of long balls and handed their NL Central rivals a sweep. Way to go Cubs! Standing at 47-43 they're a mere 3 games out of first. The Brewers play the D-backs starting tonight (which is a real favorable series for them). Yesterday's action featured a 3-run shot by Derek Lee who reached base in all 4 plate appearances.

Also with homers were Angel Pagan's 2-run shot (4) and Ryan Theriot's (2) solo homer which was the difference in the game. The lineup tore up Astros' pitching in the 2nd with 6 runs then only scratched out a run for the rest of the game. That doesn't matter when they win. Jason Marquis experienced another down game after lasting 4 innings, but the bullpen picked up the slack and did a great job in Game 3 of the series. Kudos to them for their vast improvement from months past.

Tonight the Giants are in town for a 3-game bill with all the attention centered around Barry Bonds. I'm sure he'll get at least one homerun, although I don't care what he does as long as the Cubs take the series. They've got to keep the pressure riding on the Brewers. Chicago is a more experienced club who's persistence and leadership personas look to have a lasting effect on their success. I'd like to see the Cubs outperform the 11-hit performance they put together Sunday afternoon. It's about time for Jacque Jones to heat up. Soriano and him make a nice touch in the outfield. Note to Rich Hill: Don't give Bonds anything to hit...give him some chin music if you have to today.
