The day off Monday was well deserved for the Cubs who come a sweep against Washington. The 4-3 win in Game 3 of the series came in extra innings. Daryl Ward slapped the game-winning single in the 10th. He came on late as a pinch hitter and drew a walk in his first at-bat, keeping the inning alive to help Chicago tie the game. Matt Murton also had a huge hit off the bench. Ryan Dempster pitched 1 inning and collected is first win.
The above .500 mark at 15-14 looks good and it shows the players are starting to function better as a a team. Angel Guzman did a solid job as the starter Sunday, lasting 5 innings and only allowing an earned run on 2 hits and 2 walks. He should have recorded the W. Looking forward in the schedule the Cubs work to continue the hot streak as they meet the Pirates at home for a 3-game series before going on to the road to play the Phillies and Mets.
